Carol J. Shaya-Castro, also known under her maiden name Carol Shaya, is a former glamor model, actress, and New York City police officer whose employment was terminated after she appeared in the August 1994 issue of Playboy magazine.

Shaya was born in Jaffa, Israel,Her father also worked as a police officer.

carol shaya just filed a request for a restraining order against her ex girlfriend -- yes, ex girlfriend -- claiming she was the victim in a heated girl-on-girl fight.

Former officer Carol Shaya claims the drama exploded last month, when her live-in girlfriend, Jessica Phillips, unleashed a can of whoopass when Carol tried to break things off.

In the papers, filed last week in L.A. County Superior Court, Shaya claims Phillips "came across the room, grabbed me by my throat, threw me into the refrigerator door."

Carol also claims her visiting mother was once attacked by Phillips -- who allegedly twisted her wrist, scratched her and threatened to unleash "World War III" if mom didn't leave.

Shaya wants Phillips to stay 100 yards away from both her and her mother.

Farrah Fawcett Cancer

Farrah Fawcett 'not at death's door'

LA Now reports that her friend/producer Craig Nevius confirmed Monday to Associated Press that the 62-year-old "Charlie's Angels" star has been hospitalized for a blood clot, a side effect of treatment she underwent in Germany. But she's not near death.

"She's doing fantastic," Nevius said. "Her fight goes on. ... She's not going anywhere anytime soon."

He added: "As previously reported by everybody, she's not unconscious. She is not on death's door. The family has not gathered to say goodbye."

This guy is producing Fawcett's documentary chronicling her fight against cancer, called "A Wing and a Prayer." The actress was diagnosed with the disease in late 2006. She had chemotherapy and radiation and was in remission in early 2007. However, a few months later, her cancer returned. She eventually pursued alternative therapy abroad.

Fawcett's doctor, Lawrence Piro, said that Fawcett had abdominal bleeding and a hematoma after undergoing aggressive alternative cancer treatments in Germany.

Piro released a statement to the AP that Fawcett was using a wheelchair because it was painful for her to walk. "That pain, which was coming from the hematoma, had nothing directly to do with the cancer. She remains in good spirits with her usual sense of humor. She's been in great shape her whole life and has an incredible resolve and an incredible resilience."

People reports that Farrah's friend Alana Stewart was with her on Saturday night. "Farrah's spirits are amazing. She has been amazing through this whole ordeal."

One report, however, does hold true. Redmond O'Neal, Fawcett's son with Ryan O'Neal, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of bringing narcotics into a jail facility and was being held on $25,000 bail.

A deputy was doing a security sweep of the Castaic jail's parking lot when he stopped Redmond, who admitted he was carrying drugs, a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman said.

Producer Says Fawcett's Cancer Has Spread

Just moments after a report claiming that actress Farrah Fawcett was "doing fantastic" despite being hospitalized, now comes word that her cancer has reportedly spread to her liver.

Fawcett, who has been battling anal cancer since 2006, has been hospitalized for days. While the details of why she was hospitalized have been spotty, producer Craig Nevius has confirmed that in 2007, scans showed that Fawcett's cancer had spread. "Not only had it recurred, it metastasized to her liver," Nevius told The Associated Press on Monday.
Still, Nevius urges that the 'Charlie's Angels' starlet is "not on death's door."

"She had a minor procedure. That procedure led to a small amount of bleeding into a muscle in her abdominal wall," according to Fawcett's oncologist, Dr. Lawrence Piro. According to Piro, Fawcett is "on the mend and will be going home very shortly," and that she "remains in good spirits with her usual sense of humor."

Longtime lover Ryan O'Neal echoes similar sentiments. He told the New York Post that Fawcett was "in for a procedure, she'll be out. This is not at death's door. Pray for her. That's all I can say."

MSNBC reported that some friends are less optimistic. "She's a fighter, but we get the sense she knows the end is coming," said one source. "But we're all still praying for a miracle."

Fawcett has been fighting rectal cancer since her diagnosis in 2006. Though she was diagnosed free of cancer, the disease has returned. She has recently undergone experimental stem-cell treatment in Germany.

Sarah Palin is still on the minds of a lot of American’s; usually the losing ticket sort of fades away into obscurity, but not if you’re one Sarah Heath Palin who just happened to model in a bikini back in 1984 in a beauty pageant. Read more, see photos and bikini video below.

Bikini or not, Sarah Palin is still a favorite of conservatives, and still a favorite target of the left. Like I stated earlier, how many of you thought Lloyd Benson was a viable threat after he and Dukakis were defeated back in ’88? How many conservative hit pieces were there on Geraldine Ferraro after the 1984 election? Not many if any at all.

For some reason though, the left wing media and the democratic party are still gunning for Sarah Palin. Conservatives disagree on whether or not she is the right person to lead the Republicans back from the wilderness; my guess is if she puts on that bikini again, she would have more than just conservatives following her anywhere.

The very reason that this bikini, beauty pageant video is still making the rounds like it is, is the fact that the left wing media is still trying to discredit Sarah Palin. The only possible reason is that they saw just what a potential danger she is to their current stranglehold on power. Sarah Palin is a natural leader, whether she’s wearing a skirt, bikini, or blue jeans she has a natural ability to lead people.

Unfortunately for Sarah Palin, many Americans today still put a lot of stock into what the media has to say. The media should have lost credibility on the subject of Sarah Palin after they went after her daughter, publically ridiculing and making a mockery of her failed relationship. If the truth were known, the media probably has a bit of blame in that as well. How many teenage kids could put up with that kind of scrutiny and pressure?

Did anyone else just see David Spade put chewing gum under his seat during the “Top Downloads” telecast of American Idol?

It happened during Randy Jackson’s evaluation of Lil Round’s performance. David was in the audience sitting behind the judges.

David Spade was caught on video on American Idol while he was behind Randy Jackson taking the gum out of his mouth and allegedly placing it or sticking it under his seat. I saw David Spade took the bubble gum out of his mouth but am not sure if he did stick it under the chair. Maybe the best way to find out is take a look at the seat he was sitting on and see if there's a gum under it!

David Cook, last season’s “American Idol”winner and a Blue Springs native, canceled two scheduled shows this week to deal with “family matters.”

“We are canceling Monday and Tuesday’s shows to allow David time to deal with personal family matters,” an announcement posted on his official Web site read. “Please respect his privacy at this time. David would like everyone to rest assured that we are working with the universities to reschedule the shows that are missed.”

No specifics were given on the “family matters,” but Cook’s brother, Adam, has been battling advanced brain cancer. An “American Idol” representative told People magazine that Cook spent time with Adam last week.

The canceled shows were scheduled in New Hampshire and Connecticut, as part of his first tour, “The Declaration Tour,” running through October. The tour started in February to support his self-titled debut album.

Fans showed support on his Web site in response to the announcement, urging him to take as much time as he needs.

He plans to hit the road again Thursday, according to the People report. He will also appear on American Idol tonight in a pre-taped performance, according to his MySpace page.

After David spent time with brother Adam reportedly the last few days, and canceled two dates, the remainder of the tour continues as plan. Tonight Cook gave an incredible American Idol performance.

As covered earlier on LALATE, Adam has had brain cancer for a decade. David Cook canceled two shows “to deal with personal family matters.”

“David would like everyone to rest assured that we are working with the universities to reschedule the shows that are missed”.

Cook’s rep confirms he was with Adam last week. The dates were this week’s New Hampshire and Connecticut venues.

jane powell celebrate 80th birthday

April 1st marks the 80th birthday of MGM songbird Jane Powell. Groomed by the studio in the mid 1940s to be a teen soprano in the Deanna Durbin mold, Powell scored a big success with A DATE WITH JUDY (1948).

Born 80 years ago today in Portland, Oregon, Jane Powell had a relatively brief but memorable film career in the '40s and '50s, playing the sweet-natured leading lady in a series of musicals and romances.

I had the pleasure of briefly meeting Powell five years ago, when she was the guest of honor at the Port Townsend Film Festival. There, she reminded the audience of her Northwest roots (her father worked for Wonder Bread in Portland, but they often visited family in Tacoma), smilingly shared that she was only the third choice to play Fred Astaire's partner in "Royal Wedding" ("June Allyson was taken pregnant, Judy Garland was taken ill"), noted that she was maid of honor at Elizabeth Taylor's first wedding, and confirmed that the pioneer-lady skirts she wore in "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" were indeed made from old quilts, and were "very heavy."

Powell (who was born Suzanne Burce, and took her screen name from her first movie, 1944's "Song of the Open Road") also told us that her favorite film from her career was the 1950 romance "Two Weeks With Love," where she was partnered with Ricardo Montalban. (She plays a teen who falls in love with a dashing older man while on vacation with her family in the Catskills -- sort of a more innocent "Dirty Dancing.") Here, as a little birthday tribute, is a clip of Powell and Montalban (who died earlier this year, at the age of 88) from that movie, dancing a charming tango.

She was Fred Astaire’s partner in ROYAL WEDDING (1951), confidently holding her own on the dance floor alongside the master. (Despite their 30-year age difference, they were strangely plausible as brother and sister.) But it was SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS (1954) that showed Powell off best, proving that she was a major movie-musical presence. Opposite Howard Keel, also at his best, and given some glorious tunes by Gene de Paul and Johnny Mercer, Powell was marvelous as Milly, the young woman who falls in love (with Keel) on sight. She marries him, only to find out that he was looking for someone to cook and clean for him and his six backwoods brothers. But she is more than a match for all seven of them!

The strength, warmth, and depth in Powell’s performance set her apart from the manufactured emoting of her soprano rivals at MGM, Kathryn Grayson and Ann Blyth. If either of those ladies had played Milly, the character would have been arch and insufferable. The vigorous spunk in Powell’s Milly feels authentic rather than cute. Her rendition of “Wonderful, Wonderful Day” is her vocal highlight, an uncontained expression of pure happiness, comparable to Julie Andrews’ mountain-top outburst in the Alps. Powell’s acting merited an Oscar nomination, to go with the film’s Best Picture nod. SEVEN BRIDES is one of the screen’s greatest movie musicals, enhanced by Stanley Donen’s zesty direction, Michael Kidd’s thrilling choreography, the irresistible ensemble of brides and brothers, handsome and rugged Keel, and, perhaps most of all, the gifted and altogether captivating Jane Powell. The tag line Maxim has come up with respect to voting in the Hometown Hotties contest is rather illuminating "You were looking for a purpose in life - we just gave it to you."

During times of economic hardship, people are desperate to be entertained. And they also seek out various guilty pleasures (McDonald's is doing a brisk business in this tanking economy, for example. Liquor sales are up, too). During the Great Depression, people flocked to the movies in an effort to forget about their troubles for a couple of hours, and they're doing the same thing during the Great Recession (the box office is pulling in record numbers).

Well, the same thing can be said about Amanda Alexis Lee and the Maxim Hometown Hotties contest. It's a pleasant diversion that, yes, may actually give some people a sense of purpose. I would not be surprised at all if the 2009 Hometown Hotties draws a record number of voters (by the way, American Idol received a record number of votes - 36 million to be exact - after last weeks results show. This lends further credence to this theory).
