Nicole Bobek Drug Arrest

Former U.S. figure skating champion Nicole Bobek has been charged with being part of a New Jersey meth drug ring.

Nicole Bobek, 31 years old, who lives in Manhattan and Florida was not arrested for being in possession of drugs but instead investigations believe that she is part of a drug ring operation. Bobek made her first court appearance this Monday via video from the Hudson County Jail.She did not fight extradition.

Bobek’s lawyer, Sam DeLuca, entered a not guilty plea for Nicole Bobek. She is being held on a $200,000 bail and she faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

Bobek was part of a major meth ring busted by authorities, but her name was being withhold until she could be arrested, DeFazio said today.

"She played a significant role in this operation," said DeFazio, whose office conducted a probe that led to more than a dozen arrests.

He wouldn't say whether she used the drug, or was in the distribution business for the gold.

Nicole Bobek won the women’s U.S. figure skating title back in 1995.

A conviction on the charges could bring up to 10 years in state prison.

It’s the final countdown—again—for Casey Kasem. The radio legend will wind up his “American Top 40” spin-off programs, “American Top 20” and “American Top 10,” on July 4— a date of significance: He created the franchise on July 4, 1970.

“Hosting various versions of my countdown program has kept me extremely busy, and I loved every minute of it,” Kasem, 77, said in a statement. “However, this decision will free up time I need to focus on myriad other projects.”

The “King of the Countdowns’ ” departure from the adult contemporary-oriented franchise is nothing new. After contractual concerns in 1988 with the show’s owner, ABC Watermark, Casey left “AT40.” But ownership reverted back to Casey and he returned in 1998 to host the revived version. He stepped down as host in 2004 and handed the duties over to Ryan Seacrest.

He was the voice that personified American music pop culture through much of the 70s and 80s. His weekly departing line, “Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars” resonates to this day for anybody in my generation. That avuncular voice, which lives on as Shaggy in Scooby Doo cartoons, is often imitated and still heard on Sirius XM satellite radio’s 70s and 80s stations, where they replay his countdown shows.

Sure, he was cheeseball in so many ways. His long distance dedications. The way he would say a famous person’s quote, then actually end it by saying, “end of quote.” Those trivia contests where you had to send in your answers — by postcard.

More than 1.2 million people have registered to attend Michael Jackson's memorial service Tuesday at Staples Center, according to a Jackson family spokesperson.

Michael Jackson’s public memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 7 beginning at 10am PDT at the Staples Center Los Angeles.His fans were invited to enter an online lottery for one of 11,000 free tickets.

A further 6,500 free tickets will be available for fans to watch a simulcast on screens at the nearby Nokia Theatre by AEG Live, the promoter of Jackson’s planned series of London concerts. Jackson rehearsed at the Staples Centre on 23 June, two days before he died.

So many people tried to register for the lottery that the website's server briefly crashed Friday morning as the ticketing process was announced.

The lottery is open until 6pm Saturday Los Angeles time, when the winners will be drawn and then notified on Sunday.

Sunshine, the family’s spokesman, declined to give any more details about the memorial, saying it was still being developed. But fans have been told there will be no funeral procession or screens outside the centre.

Kevin Jonas has stunned fans of the Jonas Brothers by asking his girlfriend Danielle Deleasa to marry him.
